Five Online Marketing Tips to Help Grow Your Business

Looking for ways to boost your online business? If so, this article on online marketing tips may give you the information you're looking for. Here we'll discuss five ways to propel your online business to greater heights by discussing blogging, Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds, pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, the opt-in list, and the web page sitemap.

Online Marketing Tips NO. 1: The BLOG

Blogging is a concept that started in late 90s.  It used to be a way to make a comment on an existing webpage, an opportunity for visitors and readers to interact or voice one's opinion on the subject for that page.  What started as a single-sentence commentary has evolved into pages of personal opinions on just about anything and everything under the sun.  As it continues to move forward, online advertising has tapped into the blog's potential.  Some reasons why you should use blogging as an online marketing tool are:

1. Blogging is simple.

2. Blogging is authentic.

3. Blogging is free.

4. Blogging builds credibility.

5. Blogging builds your market.

Go ahead! Give your business a boost today by effectively using the blog as an online marketing tool.

Online Marketing Tips NO. 2: The RSS Feed

Another great online marketing tip is the RSS feed. RSS may mean three different things really. The original RSS (RDF Site Summary RSS 0.9) was developed by Dan Libby for Netscape and, after a couple of months, created a simpler and easier-to-use version called Rich Site Summary or RSS 0.91. But Libby lost interest after awhile, leaving it without an owner. Later, as more and more people started using the RSS platform, a guy named Dave Winer made an adapted version of RSS 0.91 for Userland. Since the original RSS was orphaned, Winer claimed this version as his own. Later in 2005, Microsoft developed Really Simple Syndication in relation to its Simple Sharing Extensions.

RSS is basically an XML file format used mainly for syndicating content and news on the web. It is usually commissioned by websites that need to constantly update their content regularly such as news websites (MSN, BBC, Fox News, etc) and weblogs. Since it essentially gives one's webpage more traffic, it is now widely used in marketing, web publications and virus reports. Currently, large and small websites alike are usually RSS-enabled.

Online Marketing Tips NO. 3: PPC Advertising

PPC or Pay-Per-Click is a popular advertising technique used on the Internet. It can be found on websites, advertising networks, and especially search engines. PPC advertising involves sponsored links that are typically in the form of text ads. These are usually placed close to search results, where an advertiser pays a particular amount to visitors who click on these links or banners and land on the advertiser's web page.

Basically, PPC advertising is all about bidding for the top or leading position on search engine results and listings. Advertisers do this by buying or bidding on keyword phrases that are relevant to their products or services - the higher the bid, the higher the spot on the search results, the more the people will find the ad (and click on it) to go to their websites (this is why some people call it "keyword advertising"). Advertisers then pay the bidding price every time a visitor clicks through the website. Done properly, PPC advertising can be an effective marketing tool that will maximize the return on your investment.

Online Marketing Tips NO. 4: The Opt-In List

In addition, an "opt-in" list refers to the list of email addresses of people who have agreed to subscribe to your mailing list. By doing this, you can freely send emails that highlight promotions, brochures, new product announcements, and every aspect of your marketing campaign.

When you build an opt in list, you not only increase the probability of being successful in email marketing, but also boost your sales and profits as well. This is because building an opt- in list will give you the opportunity to stay in touch with your customers by getting their email address.

Online Marketing Tips NO 5: The Sitemap

A website sitemap is similar to the table of contents of a book.  Sitemaps are important because it guides web surfers to the particular part of the website they have an interest in. With it they would save time following links and get right to the point instead.

Sitemaps are also where search engines look if somebody is looking for a particular keyword or phrase. If you have a site map, you can most likely be searched.

A sitemap is vital to a website because people usually search the web a looking for something in particular. If your website has what that particular individual is looking for, and your sitemap reports it, then you have a new customer looking at your items.  Not only that, but they may see other things up for sale that they might be interested in as well.

In summary, online marketing tips are fairly common on the Internet and, if you do your homework, you'll see that blogging, PPC advertising, the RSS feed, web page sitemap, and the opt-in list are among the top ranking tools that give your business the boost it needs to get seen on the Internet.
