So, you want free bulk email for your business? You'll definitely get plenty of results for a search on this term on the Internet. A Google search alone produces almost 13 million results and Google's Keywords Tool shows a very strong search trend in this area. But - do you really want just any email address or would you rather be able to target people who are more likely to buy from your site? Do you buy a list of emails (not really free), do you sign up for a service that that promises delivery of your ad to millions of email addresses (usually scammers and non-targeted), or is there another way to get the email addresses you need to get your ad or newsletter in front of your customer? Honestly, the term "free bulk email" is such a misnomer.

To get started you'll need to know that search results for the term "free bulk email" usually comes in two different guises: The bulk email software that you can download to handle your campaign and bulk email services that will send your ads or newsletters out to a list of addresses. However, the software is of two varieties as well: The "extractors" and the "senders".

Bulk Email Extractors

Free bulk email extractors can "crawl" a specific website and extract the email address or addresses that are associated with that site. These email addresses can then be saved in a database and used to send targeted emails to these sites. I personally have used Realva Technologies free email extractor with limited success. The free version only allows you to extract 20-something emails at a time and you have to keep reloading the list of URL's to get more emails. The advantage to this is that you can target specific URL's that you want to contact and not have to rely on a third party to pick these for you.

Bulk Email Senders

Free bulk email senders are just that - a software program that sends emails to the recipient. It is software that keeps the email database stored and can send emails to all of these by sending just one email. This type of software has a high speed built-in simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) server which sends emails directly and also has an option for routing through multiple third party SMTPs like Gmail and Yahoo. It usually supports plain text or hypertext mark-up language (HTML) format with embedded images & hyperlinks in the email content. Realva offers a free bulk email sender with their extractor, but you have to sign up through their "live chat" on the site and give them your phone number. However there are scores of others out there that offer free bulk email software and searching these can be quite confusing. Just remember that "free" comes with limitations as the company will almost always try to get you to upgrade to one of their paid programs. But hey, it might just be a good way to get a feel for what you want to accomplish and try out several of the free programs before actually purchasing one.

Bulk Email Services

As I've stated in other articles on the subject, there are great companies that offer free bulk email service such as Mailchimp. Typically the service is free when you create an account, you are limited to 500 subscribers, and can send up to 3000 emails a month. After you get over 500 subscribers, Mailchimp offers the next upgrade for a $15.00 monthly fee. Not a bad deal really if you want to outsource this part of your campaign. As with the other software, try out several services to get a feel for them and pick the one that serves your needs most appropriately.

To recap, free bulk email is really a misnomer. Nobody really wants free email addresses to just anybody on the Internet. You want them to be targeted. This is where the free software and services can help you in your quest. Try out a few of the programs and get a feel for them, then decide on which one you really want to purchase. Remember too that, in efforts to stop Spam email, many recipients use specialized email software to block junk email, which has the undesired effect of filtering out legitimate Spam- free bulk email.
