In this day and age of an almost endless web presence, it is easy for a lot of people to get hooked by slick ads and marketing campaigns. Having said this, anyone looking to advance their business or webpage has almost certainly considered a bulk email service. It is considered by many Internet marketers to be one of the cheapest and quickest ways to get customers to your website. However, not all bulk email service providers are created equal. Some of these services are legit while others are almost certainly scammers. Here we’ll discuss a little about both and, in the end, hope to educate those considering one of these services
One of the first points to consider with any bulk email service is their ability to provide you with targeted email addresses of people who are highly likely to open and read those emails. Targeted is the key word here. Just because the email is opened and read does not mean the recipient wants to receive it. A lot of the paid bulk email service providers will use special software to harvest emails and names from any source, some as far away as China. Nothing will destroy your business faster than complaints to the FCC about unsolicited emails and SPAM. The best way to avoid this is to:
Build Your Own List of Names (List Building)
Honestly, the ideal way to send safe, targeted bulk email is to build a list of names and emails yourself through an opt-in form on your website. After that you can use a bulk email service to send your emails or newsletters to the people who have signed up on your list. Also known as “list building”, building your own email list has several advantages. One advantage is that all the people you are emailing have opted to receive your goods. Another advantage is that there’s very little chance that someone will complain about getting spammed or receiving unsolicited emails. The disadvantage to building your own list is that it is slow and time consuming.
Research the Bulk Email Service
Do a search on two or more of the major search engines regarding the bulk email service you are interested in and see what pops up. A word of caution here because sometimes there will be a result (or more) that comes up with “scam” after it in the title. Be wary of these because some of the worst companies will place these types of websites pretending to be an objective third party saying that they aren’t scams, while promoting the company. This confuses many people into believing that the company is legit when it’s just another form of deception.
Read What Others are Saying
Listen in on forums to what those people are saying about the bulk email service you are thinking about. This is one of the best ways to get an idea of who has had a good experience and those that did not. Some good places to start with this tactic is “Rip-Off Report” dot com and the “Warrior Forum”. These two places are the best for finding out how companies are treating people, delivering what they promise, and are they getting the results they are looking for. Warrior Forum has been a great source of information from my standpoint on getting the lowdown on some of the bulk email service providers that don’t deliver what they say they will and are basically just scamming people out of their hard earned money.
Check With the Better Business Bureau (BBB)
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) receives thousands of complaints annually regarding businesses that don’t follow through with their promises or are just plain frauds. A good bet would be that if you find your bulk email service provider is on the BBB’s fraud list, it’s probably not one you would want to do business with.
In the end, the bulk email service is designed to avoid unintended (and common) consequences of large mailings and there are many good services out there like Constant Contact, Aweber, Mailchimp, and others. Yet, there are others out there in cyberspace that promise you the moon without even so much as a trickle. Research your company, then research it again! List building is by far the best way to go. Even though the going may be slow in the beginning, it is one way to avoid the pitfalls so many others have suffered at the hands of predatory marketers and unscrupulous business practices.
